In 2001, the September 11, 2001 attacks reshaped American life and foreign policy, launching wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, while the U.S. Mint's wildly popular 50 State Quarters program was, at the same time, getting an entire generation newly interested in checking their pocket change. This American Silver Eagle, struck from the government's silver stockpile since the bullion program launched in 1986, dates from exactly this period.
