1964 Kennedy Half Dollar (Silver 1964)

Intriguing History

Early proof dies for the 1964 Kennedy half gave the president's hair an unusually sharp, heavily accented look that some officials felt was too harsh a likeness. The Mint quietly softened the design partway through 1964 proof production, leaving the original "Accented Hair" strikes as an early, sought-after variety.
