Intriguing History

Philadelphia struck no cents at all in 1922, leaving Denver as the only mint producing the coin that year -- a fact that later gave rise to the famous 1922 "No D" error, when worn dies briefly obscured Denver's own mintmark. This properly mintmarked 1922-D is the ordinary, correctly struck version of that same single-mint production run.
