Intriguing History
1873 is the final year of the Seated Liberty dollar, the coin the Coinage Act of 1873 dropped from U.S. coinage. Carson City struck 1,000 by January 31 and about 1,300 more around February 13, the day after the Act was signed. In the 1970s, a construction worker found three uncirculated 1873-CC dollars hidden in a wall of the Nevada State Museum, the former Carson City Mint building.
