1793 Large Cents (1793-1857)

Intriguing History

The very first cents the United States Mint ever struck in 1793 abbreviated AMERICA as "AMERI." on the reverse, a shortcut corrected within the same year once officials in Philadelphia weighed in, making this earliest abbreviated version one of the true foundational rarities of American coinage.
